The Kindness Club, previously known as Be The Change Team, has been fairly busy this year with rebranding, finding ways to spread love during such a hard time at our school, and preparing for Give A Compliment Week from March 15 through March 19. We have a really enthusiastic group of kind people this year, as we do every year, who really care about making positive change. A goal for our group is to avoid toxic positivity and not distract from the important work other groups are doing at YHS. Nonetheless, we are beyond excited that we were able to run things, as usual, this year. Our group has been lucky because we have been able to make the majority of our events virtual! Like at the end of the 2019-20 school year, we organized multiple (virtual) events, made posters for the graduating seniors, and tried to share our fun times on our Instagram story (@yhs_kindnessclub).
I have led this group since my sophomore year when I rebooted the operation. It has been such a pleasure to be a part of this amazing group of people working to uplift the school community. -Jack Vigue, Senior

This year, the Be The Change Team is very excited to spread kindness throughout the school. While we are going to continue some traditional activities within the group like wear purple day and give a compliment week, we also have new ideas that we want to try out this year. We just recently had a Kindness Pledge that many people signed, which was awesome. Some other ideas we have this year are possible screening a movie about anti-bullying, new ways of spreading kindness, and more. We still have some planning to do, but can’t wait to share with you all what we have in store.
In addition to all the new ideas we have this year, the group is working on rebranding a bit. You may have seen the Be The Change posters in your classroom, but hopefully soon we will be replacing them with new posters to embrace our new and improved group. This year we are focusing on spreading kindness and preventing bullying. We want to embrace the ideas of inclusion, trust, and friendship. Although these ideas are mostly the same as they were in previous years, the most important change this year is the fact that we are moving a bit away from Ghandi being the slogan for the club. The group wants to go in a new direction that embraces the whole world working together to better ourselves. You will notice this change much more when you see the new posters in your classrooms! Be The Change Team can’t wait to get more involved in the school culture this year, and hope you all consider coming to a meeting. We meet every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. Meeting times may change due to specific upcoming events, but these changes always come with timely warnings so everyone who chooses to be on our email list will know of the change. Hope you are all having an awesome start to the school year!!! “Choose Kindness!” -Jack Vigue, Junior |
