WandaVision, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) first real step into television, is a bold and experimental new show which is executed remarkably well, paving the way for a new future for Marvel.
Having been watching Marvel movies since I was a kid, I have a deep love of the movies. However, after watching all of them, it’s somewhat obvious that the movies all follow a similar formula. WandaVision, on the other hand, completely moves away from this formula and shows that Marvel is capable of not only putting out “superhero movies” but can also produce an amazing show with deep messages where each episode leaves you wanting more.
WandaVision is a television miniseries made by Jacqueline Schaeffer which is based on the Marvel characters Wanda Maximoff, AKA the Scarlet Witch, and her robo-husband Vision. But It’s not necessary to have seen the films in order to enjoy the TV show. The show is set after the final film that last featured the couple: Avengers Endgame. WandaVision stands on its own and anyone can enjoy the show without knowing a thing about Wanda and Vision.
All fans of Marvel will appreciate the show, which turned out to be both unique and unpredictable, with the first two episodes completely in black and white set in the 50s and 60s in a seemingly sitcom style. Then, as more episodes came out of the nine episode series, the larger story began to unravel slowly, making the viewer have more and more questions and theories after every episode.
With two episodes released every week, fans all over the world theorized on sites like Reddit and Quora on what twists and turns the show would take, yet almost none came close. WandaVision is truly an unpredictable and complex show while still having great humor and being very engaging. That plus the fun and innovative style of WandaVision will engage all audiences, including high school students, who are always looking for something special and different. WandaVision is only available to watch on Disney+, and a subscription does cost $7.99 a month. However, students might find this a small price to pay for the enjoyment of watching the entire series and the Marvel movies, which are also available on Disney+. Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time, making the investment and commitment minimal.
In conclusion, WandaVision is a fantastic show which breaks the usual boundaries of its franchise and truly shows what Marvel is capable of producing moving forward.
