Every quintessential Maine town deserves a pizza place at the center of town. A reliable spot anyone can call on for a good slice. With restaurants all over the country struggling to operate under Covid-19 restrictions people have looked in a different direction for dinner options. With in person dining not an option the takeout and delivery scene has become the new ‘norm’. Pizza remains the best way to get a hot meal quickly, the whole family will enjoy. Otto Pizza with locations in Portland,Yarmouth, South Portland, Saco, and Massechuesttes offers that to people across New England.
Since Otto first started operating on Main Street in Yarmouth, they’ve received high praise from people across town. Sitting right on the corner of Main Street and West Elm their spot behind Andy's Handy Store offers takeout and delivery to the Yarmouth, Cumberland area. The establishment has continued to receive commendation through the pandemic committing to serving the community no matter the adversity. It’s brilliant how Otto’s has managed to keep artisan pizzas on the tables of hungry families across southern Maine while maintaining a socially distant way of business. Hard work and commitment have made them one of the most notable pizzerias in Maine and they weren’t about to let anything stop them.
When you first step inside you’re greeted by a rustic seating area with large windows facing the road. Above this seating area they have a private room with couches, large tables and T.V’s, this room is available for rent and catering. Businesses and groups all over town use the room for meetings, and celebrations. The walls are covered in art and posters from local artists and events, reminding me of Clam Festivals of the past. Once at the counter, the open layout reveals a bustling kitchen equipped with brick ovens and hot pies ready for customers to indulge.
They offer a broad range of different kinds of pizza. High quality ingredients adorn a thin, crispy crust to create truly unique pizza options for their patrons. A staple of the menu, and many people's favorite is their mashed potato, bacon, scallion pizza. Dollops of creamy mashed potatoes offer a base for maple bacon and fresh chopped scallions. My own go to is the margarita pizza, ripe slices of tomato sizzle atop the warm mozzarella and a tart sauce offering the perfect pie for a traditionalist. The menu is also very friendly to dietary restrictions with vegetarian and gluten free options for anyone with a sensitive stomach. If you somehow aren’t enticed by their many options out of the oven you can revitalize your palate with one of their farm-fresh salad options.
The Folks over at Ottos have a focus on simplicity and quality. To paraphrase their own slogan, they understand that pizza, although a simple food, doesn’t have to be ordinary. they have been extremely successful due to their creativity and attention to detail.
