There is new construction at Yarmouth High School. The new part of the building features brand new things like a new weight room and whole new wings. Several faculty members commented on the new development of the new part of the building.
According to Mrs. Jennifer Lainey, lead secretary at Yarmouth High School, the classrooms are bigger with better lighting. And the science classrooms have newer and better lab stations and lab equipment. Also there have been new deliveries of lab equipment to the science classrooms.
People are interested about why this construction was necessary. Yarmouth high school principal, Mr. Eric Klein, said that many teachers in the school have had to share classrooms, and that our enrollment these past ten years has averaged between 400 to 500 students but is growing. “We needed more classrooms and more space,” Klein said.
Klein talked about the building project schedule. He said the construction workers are about 90% on schedule, and the other 10% behind was due to supply challenges.
“The second story wings and the music room were done a month early,” Klein said, “but the setback we faced was due to the new entrance which hit with steel which was all because of covid. The factory shut down and the project got put on delay for 6 months.”
Klein added that further delays were caused by changes on the manufacturer’s end. “We should have that entrance done by march,” he said.
Even with the setbacks, Klein reports that the project stayed on track and within the budget with everything that was needed even considering the factory shutdowns with no additional costs.
According to English teacher, Ms. Anne Tommaso, the layout of the projects makes it a really long walk from one wing to another. But she reports that the cafeteria remodel is a great new space.
